Cabo San Lucas, Mexico Between
the shadows of the mountains and the endless expanse of a sapphire sea
lies what some people say call paradise on earth. The water is warm, the
drinks are cold, the fishing superb, the weather is perfect - averaging
78 all year, and the food is fabulous. Los Cabos, which is made up of
Cabo San Lucas, San Jose del Cabo and Cabo Real, sits at the very tip
of Baja California Sur. This tiny place at the tip of Mexico's least populated
state, can provide you with long walks on basically deserted beaches,
snorkeling in pristine ocean waters, and luxurious accommodations. And
it can also give the traveler nightclubs that never close, bargain shopping,
and very inexpensive bed and breakfasts and motels. You want it, Cabo
has it.
Cabo San Lucas
Once a small
fishing village with a seafood cannery, Cabo San Lucas has been transformed
in the last 50 years into one of Mexico's featured destinations. If you
love the ocean, you'll love it here. In addition, Cabo also has become
a place that never sleeps - the nightlife is sensational with clubs that
are open all night, casual dining with outstanding seafood, and bars right
on the beach. Swimming, scuba diving, surfing, para-sailing, snorkeling,
sea kayaking, water skiing, glass bottom boat cruises, wave runners, wind
surfing, whale watching, you name it and it is available. Don't miss one
of the Pez Gato snorkeling trips to the incredible Santa Maria bay or
one of their great Sunset or Booze Cruises. Some newer attractions in
Cabo are getting a lot of notice. Cabo Expeditions and their fleet of
Zodiacs are offering some really exciting snorkeling and ecological adventure
tours. The Sunderland, a 110 ft. long, 112 year old "tall ship" is the
Pirate Ship you see in the harbor. They offer sunset cruises and the ship
is also available for private cruises.
Scuba divers will not soon forget their dive at the world famous sand
falls, located just past the even more famous natural rock arch at Land's
End. Lover's Beach is located at the very tip of Cabo San Lucas. It has
some of the best tropical fish viewing to be had in this part of the world.
And about 100 yards away is the Pacific Ocean (a little too traitorous
to swim in or body surf) with its magnificent crashing waves. People have
been known to pack a lunch and spend the day watching the migrating whales
and dolphins during certain times of the year.
In addition, there is Medano Beach, which travels the edge of Baja for
14 miles. All along the way, hotels, bars and restaurants dot the beach,
ending at Marina de Cabo. The bay that is created by the beach, the marina
and the peninsula of Land's End is one of the stopovers for many cruise
ships that dock in the Bay each week, making the population of the small
town swell.
Cabo Real
Along
Highway 1, dotting the coastline between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del
Cabo, are luxurious hotels and magnificent golf courses that are like
oases in the middle of the Los Cabos desert. From the road, the traveler
has no idea what to expect. There is only a small gate with swaying palms
and beautiful flowers designating that something wonderful is hugging
the cliffs and sandy beaches below. Venturing further, in lush tropical
seclusion, each property awaits.
Golf is king in Cabo Real. There are six of the finest golf courses
in the world, each a feast for the eye and a challenge for the golfing
spirit. And still more are on the way with two others under construction.
Jack Nicholaus called Cabo del Sol golf course (ocean course) "...the
finest three finishing holes of golf in the world." Since the weather
is always lovely, a tee time of 7:30 a.m. is not only warm, it is strikingly
beautiful as you watch the sun rise over the shimmering blue sea.
San Jose del Cabo
The historic
village of San Jose del Cabo is a quaint and quiet combination of Spanish
Colonial buildings, colorful squares, quaint shops, and romantic restaurants.
Time slows down and visitors have a chance to experience first-hand a
real Mexican town. Walking through the charming village is a perfect way
to see the picturesque streets of this authentic village.
The shopping and dining choices are plentiful, offering visitors a variety
of options: jewelry, crafts, regional art, and clothing are just some
of the items to be found. The town's restaurants serve an exciting mix
of local and international cuisine that range from nouvelle Mediterranean,
to California fusion, to classic French, to traditional Mexican.
Near the downtown village square lies the ecologically protected nature
preserve estuary where guests can observe exotic plants and birds in their
natural habitat. White sand beaches and azure water are only minutes away.
San Jose is known as the fisherman's paradise with large and small vessels
leaving every morning for big game fishing in the Sea of Cortez.
Los Cabo is one of the most unusual and most interesting areas in all
of Mexico. Although the area itself has been here for centuries, it has
evolved into an International melting pot, as different cultures continue
to blend together. A vacation in Los Cabo is a fun-filled experience with
ideal climate, great food, nightlife and tradition coming together. Come
to Cabo and experience a vacation you will remember the rest of your life.
