In 1812 Marth Allston, the daughter of Benjamin Allston, Sr., married John Pyatt and moved into the house. The house remained the Pyatt family until 1896. They owned four rice plantations, Turkey Hill, Oatland, Richmond and Rosemont. In 1791 George Washington toured the South, including Georgetown. He was taken to Benjamin Allston, Sr.'s house where he spent the night. Martha was only two years old then. Prince George Episcopal Church, the first church established in Georgetown district is directly across the street from 1790 House. There are many historical homes dating back to the 1740's, including the Kaminski House Museum.
The Pyatt House-1790 House is a three story hipped roof residence. The house has five hip roof dormers and a full length one story veranda. The foundation is laid in English bond brick except the porch foundation is of Bermuda coral rock. This coral rock was used as ballast in early cargo ships to Georgetown. This is the only house in Georgetown area where ballast was used in construction. The house has the original wood cornice, wainscoting, chair rail, base mold and heart pine floors. The stairs and bannister are original in the hallway. The parlor has fine dentiled cornice with consoles, original chair rail, wainscoting and base and a good fluted mantel with shelf resting on a row of dentils.
