Burgundy House Country Inn 6711 Washington Street Yountville, CA 94599 (707) 944-0889 | |||||||||
| Burgundy House is a distinct French country stone structure located 9 mi. north of Napa. Built in the early 1890's of local field stone and river rock, it withstood over 100 years of time and wear, neglect and rehabilitation. Its ideal location at the entrance of the famous Napa Valley makes it a most convenient stopping place from which to explore this magnificent winegrowing region of northern California. |
| Originally starting out as a brandy distillery, the building also housed a winery, a hotel, went through prohibition rather gracefully as a meeting place of opposite genders, served as an antique warehouse and store and eventually found appreciation as a bed and breakfast inn. The fortress-like walls are 22" thick, the posts and lintels are handhewn beams, still showing the axmarks craftsmen left over a century ago. The rustic masonry of the interior is accentuated by antique country furniture, creating the wonderfully warm ambiance of a time gone by. | |
