The CAPTAIN DEXTER HOUSE OF VINEYARD HAVEN and the CAPTAIN DEXTER HOUSE OF EDGARTOWN - two
historic inns in two historic towns - were built in the 1840's as sea captains' homes, and have been meticulously
restored and exquisitely furnished to reflect the charm and elegance of that period. The inns combine the grace
and dignity of the past with the convenience and comfort of the present. There is an intimacy, a serenity, a remembrance
of less hurried times.

How special you'll feel surrounded by antiques from the Victorian and Edwardian periods. Original
wide floorboards, graceful mouldings, Count Rumford fireplaces . . . all are reminders of the skills of long-ago
craftsmen. Guests are invited to relax in our comfortable living room/library with its large, welcoming fireplace.

Each inn's romantic guest rooms conjure up memories of yesteryear. Each is uniquely different
and distinctively decorated with fine furnishings to create the warmth and ambience of an elegant private home.
Each has its own bathroom. Several have working fireplaces and four-poster beds with white lace canopies. |
Enjoy a complimentary continental breakfast each morning in our elegant dining room or enchanting
flower-filled garden. Fresh-squeezed juices, home-baked breads, muffins, croissants, coffee, tea, herbal teas,
and preserves are served.
Each inn is located in the heart of town on a street of fine historic homes, only a short
stroll from the beach, excellent shops and restaurants. In Vineyard Haven, we're only a block from the ferry, making
us especially convenient for guests without cars. For guests with cars, we offer ample private parking. Space is
available for storing bicycles.
