TIME OFF IN THE VINEYARDS

Time-off to explore

Like the highlights of a lifetime; so could be described the "Côte d'Or"...
The Côte has never been a barrier and for those who take the time to stop and explore it, it becomes a very special place. Discover the slopes in autumns when they take on every imaginable shade of gold; but you will be captivated by its charm in any season.

In the valleys, at the foot of cliffs, the villages, built in stone, huddle round ancient churches. The hilly regions, the coombs, the abrupt cliff edges which here are called "the end of the world", give an everchanging spectacle but all are linked by the ever present vineyard.

Time-off for history

The towns, whatever their size, hold within their walls all our history, your history.

Beaune, the favorite residence of the dukes of Burgundy, has kept from this golden age a multitude of architectural treasures. The Hotel-Dieu which houses Van der Weyden's famous painting of The Last Judgment, The Hotel Ducs de Bourgogne, which has become a wine museum, the Basilique of Notre-Dame with its tapestries dating from the 15th century, the Fine Arts Museum, the Marey Museum, the ramparts which still encircle the old part of the town.

From the Middle Ages, Nolay has kept its ancient houses and streets clustered around the church, the covered Market built in the 15th century and nearby the Chateau of Rochepot. The towns and villages with their evocative names have almost always a church for you to discover, full of works of art, witnesses of the past.

Along each winding path all the Côte is there waiting to be discovered.

Time-off gastronomy

There are few regions in the world whose names evoke so intensely the art and the quality of living. Say to a connoisseur - Beaune, Meursault, Pommard, Corton-Charlemagne, Montrachet and you will see their eyes light-up.

Introduced by the Romans, the vine has found here its ideal terrain.

But it is above all the hard work practiced by the Burgundians throughout the centuries with their insistence on quality and their continual striving for excellence that this region around Beaune has achieved such a well deserved reputation.

On the stony slopes of the Côte d'Or, the vine, well orientated toward the eastern sun, flourishes on terrains with prestigious names.

Its micro climate, dry and hot in summer and the varied types of soil make this area an obvious choice for the plantation of vineyards. The Pinot Noir and the Chardonnay varieties of grape together with the unrivaled know-how of the wind-growers makes the wines which are produced around Beaune the most prestigious in the world.

The gastronomy is also on a par with its natural and historical treasures. So, if Burgandy deserves its place amongst the most refined and gourmand regions of France, it is without a doubt because of the subtle way that the haute cuisine and the great wines are married for the pleasure of connoisseur.

Time-off for history

In this picturesque region where nature and man live in harmony, it is difficult not to live life to the full.

Relive history through the vibrant and colorful spectacles, share popular traditions during the fetes, the rituals, the pilgrimages. Discover the countryside by climbing the cliffs or simply by walking or riding along the many pathways of the Hautes Côtes.

Experience the life of the towns more intensely by looking carefully at the sculpted houses but also at the shops and the markets and take part in the hustle and bustle of everyday life or celebration days.
