The Palmer Home, also known as "The Pink Palace", is one of the fifty most famous homes in the city of Charleston.  The home was built in 1848 by John Ravenel, whose son designed the "Little David", the first semi-submersible vessel and the forerunner to the submarine.

Thanks to its excellent construction and thirty-six inch walls, the Palmer Home has withstood hurricanes, tornadoes and even the first major earthquake in the history of the United States in 1896.

The Palmer Home boasts:
  • 18,000 square feet
  • Twenty-six rooms
  • Fifteen bedrooms (three B&B rooms)
  • All rooms have private bathrooms
  • Ten fireplaces - Black African marble
  • A separate carriage house
  • Off-street parking
  • Swimming pool

This private home is now operated as a bed and breakfast by third generation owners, Mr. and Mrs. David B. Hogan.  The house is furnished and decorated with antiques dating back two hundred years.

The Palmer Home has been featured in various news and magazine articles and television programs, including the French issue of Vogue Magazine. Private swimming pool

All of the guest rooms are located on the third floor and offer spectacular views of the Charleston Harbour and historic Fort Sumter.

Getting luggage and souvenirs up to your room is no problem - the home is equipped with an elevator for everyone's convenience!

Included in your night stay is breakfast consisting of:
Bagels, croissants, orange juice, jams jellies, cream cheese, coffee, tea, hot chocolate and drinks.  These are all provided for you in your room breakfast bar and refrigerator.  You may eat in your room or on the piazza which is right off your bedroom - overlooking the Charleston Harbour.
The Palmer Home is also a great place for special events.  Guests enjoy gathering in our beautiful drawing room, and taking horse-and-buggy rides around Historic Charleston.
