2001 Inn of the Year - January, 2001

We are pleased to announce that the readers of The Complete Guide to Bed & Breakfasts, Inns and Guesthouses in the United States, Canada and Worldwide by Pamela Lanier have voted The Candlelite Inn in Bradford, New Hampshire as our 2001 Inn of the Year.

The Candlelite Inn was built and opened in October 1897 as the Gillis House. It has been through many names and changes over the last 103 years. In 1993, Les and Marilyn Gordon purchased the inn and continue the tradition of grace and charm at this fine Victorian Inn.

Nestled on 3 plus acres of countryside in the valley of the Lake Sunapee Region, the Inn is perfect for sitting on the gazebo porch, sipping lemonade on hot, lazy summer days, walking on the backroads of Bradford as the leaves change, or cross country and snowshoe the hills as you explore the beautiful scenery in town. Ski the slopes of Mt. Sunapee, then come back to the inn to raspberry truffle hot chocolate as you warm up in front of a crackling fire.

The gazebo porch welcomes guests up the original granite steps. Once inside, the Reception Room is decorated in a country Victorian flair. The 6 guestrooms are individually decorated and named for a color. The Peach Room, for example, is wallpapered in soft peach flowers. The brass bed and an etched double mirrored armoire set the room off exquisitely.

Wake up to the aromatic smells coming from the kitchen as Les & Marilyn freshly prepare a gourmet breakfast. The 3 course breakfast – down to dessert – is served in the lovely Sun Room which overlooks the pond and babbling brook.

Throughout the year The Candlelite Inn hosts special weeks: Currier & Ives Maple Sugar

Weekend in March, Old Glory Heritage Tours in July, August and September, Foliage Midweek

Getaways in September and October, and Murder Mystery Parties throughout the year, just to name a few.

Les & Marilyn Gordon have earned their accolades. We offer many congratulations to them as well as our warm wishes for continued success. You can find more information about The Candlelite Inn on Pamela Lanier’s Bed & Breakfast Guide Online at www.travelguides.com.
