20th Anniversary

Lanier Publishing International and BBIG International are proud to announce our 20th anniversary! 2002 will be an exciting year as the celebration begins.
Pamela Lanier, author and founder, started out in the Bed & Breakfast industry upon returning from a post-college adventure in Europe. During her travels she stayed at a combination of bed & breakfasts, country inns, and pensiones and fell in love with these charming personalized lodgings. It was 1982 and the B&B concept was just beginning to take off in the U.S. Pamela felt the industry needed a comprehensive resource directory similar to those "well-thumbed" guidebooks of Europe. So she gathered information from throughout North America and created The Complete Guide to Bed & Breakfasts, Inns and Guesthouses. And she certainly succeeded. Upon release of the first edition, the New York Times said, "All necessary information about facilities, prices, pets, children, amenities, credit cards and the like. Like France's Michelin…" The project developed a life of its own and increased exponentially from 1,200 inns in the first edition to over 25,000 in North America today.

This trend will positively impact the small independent lodging sector (i.e. bed and breakfasts, country inns, etc.) whose guests traditionally arrive by car. Furthermore, the majority of inns are located in vacation destinations away from big cities, which will only give them more appeal to leisure travelers eager for some relaxation away from the crowds.

Special Events
Lanier Publishing and BBIGI will be publishing our 20th anniversary edition of The Complete Guide to Bed & Breakfasts, Inns and Guesthouses International, which has featured over 7,000 member inns from 131 countries through the years. Innsider Magazine called this international best seller the best Bed & Breakfast guidebook in an independent innkeeper survey.
The 20th anniversary celebration will begin with the 4th in the series of Cinnamon Morning cookbooks, called Cinnamon Mornings and Chocolate Dreams being published this spring. This "sure to please" cookbook features inn recipes from breakfast and brunch to bedtime snacks and treats.
Throughout the year we will give special recognition to our "charter members" (properties who have been with BBIGI for at least 15 years). These inns will receive special bonuses as our way of thanking them for their loyalty. Other special events and offerings are being planned as Lanier Publishing commemorates our major achievement.
